Quick and Easy DIY Christmas Crafts for Kids + Simple Supplies

Quick and Easy DIY Christmas Crafts for Kids

‘Tis the Season to Get Creative!

Nothing quite says “Christmas Season” in my house like ALL THE CRAFTS. If something sits still long enough and has a blank-ish space, it will be painted, glued, glittered, and strung up! And since the cost of craft kits adds up very quickly, I try to encourage my kiddos to make as much on their own as possible, using whatever we have around the house. Here are a few quick and easy DIY crafts we’re trying this season using the simplest supplies (most of which you might even have on hand already!)

Supplies

Let’s start with supplies. Honestly, grab any piece of paper, or turn a brown paper grocery bag inside out, plus a handful of your kiddo’s favorite drawing tools and you’ve already got all you need for most of the craft ideas below. Here are a few bonus items that can really up the fun.

Colorful Crafting Paper

Sure, there’s run of the mill construction paper you can grab at any major chain, but this Neenah specialty paper really POPS. It’s thick enough that it can be cut out and strung up without an additional backing, and your kids can even draw on both sides without any ghosting!

Bakers Twine

My kids go through so much string. They find uses for it all the time. Bakers twine is both festive and strong, plus littles can cut it easily. The perfect Christmas craft addition!

Hole Punch + Miscellaneous Tools

This seems so simple, but wow the entertainment hours that a basic hole punch brings to kids of all ages. They’re particularly helpful for punching out Christmas lights and googly eyes. Other very helpful tools to have on hand are some kid-friendly scissors and a staple-free stapler.

Fun Markers

Seriously, my kids reach peak levels of excitement when they dive into a fresh pack of markers! These metallic glittery fine point markers are just the treat to make their Christmas crafts sparkle. They’re even opaque enough to work on black paper!

The How to Draw Book for Kids: Christmas Edition

It was just a joy to create the How to Draw Book for Kids: Christmas Edition for my family. It’s full of cute and silly drawings of Christmas decorations, goodies, characters, and more. I hope your kids enjoy it as much as mine have.

Supply Caddy

I’m a big fan of a simple caddy to keep all of the things together. I particularly love one that can be popped from table to counter to cabinet and grabbed again when you’re ready for your next crafting session.

Quick and Easy Christmas Crafts

Now for the fun stuff! These quick and easy DIY Christmas crafts will be making the rounds in my house in the coming weeks. Let the creating begin!

DIY PomPom Shaker Ornaments

Sure, you can buy these pom pom shaker ball ornaments, but wouldn’t it be so much more fun (and easy!?) to make them with your kiddos?? Opt for plastic clear fillable ornaments and let your kids fill them with pom poms to their hearts’ content.

3D Tea Light Paper Christmas Trees

I can’t wait to make these 3D paper Christmas trees with my kids! They are just at the age (5 and 8) to love origami, so folding and cutting PLUS A CANDLE?! I recently found two packs of flameless tea lights at the dollar store that will be perfect for this craft!

Fingerprint Christmas Trees

These fingerprint Christmas trees are easy with just enough mess to make my kids think I’m a fun mom :)

Christmas Countdown Paper Chain

These character paper chains are seriously adorable. You can also easily skip the cute faces and help your kids cut strips of paper in their preferred colors (add in pattern practice for math fundamentals practice!), add numbers, and staple them into loops together. Easy, fun, and interactive for the whole season!

Have a Christmas Doodling Party

This one is as fun as it is simple. Grab a copy of The How to Draw Book for Kids: Christmas Edition plus paper, pencils and markers and get drawing! This is super fun for kids when you cover every inch of your table with butcher paper and work to fill out every square inch with cute doodles.

DIY Thumbprint Paper Snow Globe Ornaments

These kits are cute, but I’m inspired to DIY them! My kids will love drawing and cutting out winter items and characters from their How to Draw books, gluing the layers together, and adding thumbprint snowflakes. Can’t wait!

I can’t wait to see all that you and your kids create! I’ll share my kiddos’ creations on Instagram and hope to see yours there, too!

Merry Christmas!
